FY2012 Legislative Session Ends
August 01, 2012
Momentum was building for two of JDI's priorities bills in the final weeks of the Massachusetts Legislature's formal legislative session of 2012. While neither was passed before July 31st, JDI and our allies have hopes of seeing movement on these two proposals during upcoming informal sessions.
S2402 provides housing protections for victims and survivors. While the Senate passed the bill and the of House Ways and Means Committee reported it out favorably, the bill did not make it to the floor. Special thanks to Representative Ellen Story (Amherst) and Representative Kevin Honan (Boston) for all their efforts.
S918 creates an option for employment leave for victims and survivors. This bill also passed the Senate but did not make its way through the House.
Thanks to all of your advocacy for these bills! Without it we would not have gotten the attention that was needed to get as far as we did and to help us keep the momentum going to get these bills passed in the future.
