What's Happening

"Educating our communities and elected officials about the needs of survivors in our local cities and towns requires year round focus. JDI is our pathway to informing and influencing the state and national agenda to end sexual and domestic violence." ~ Karen Cavanaugh, Executive Director of Womanshelter/Companeras. Increases secured in FY14 State Budget

Governor Patrick signed the FY14 budget this afternoon, maintaining critical funding (including increases) for sexual and domestic violence services!

In summary, the Governor kept in the budget amounts from the Conference Committee budget with the exception of a small veto of an earmark (which JDI asked him to do). The full budget can be explored here: http://www.mass.gov/bb/gaa/fy2014/

Thank you all for your constant and consistent advocacy throughout the entire budget process! We will continue to look for opportunities in supplemental budgets to address ongoing needs and will continue to keep you posted and involved as we work with advocate regarding implementation of funds within these line items.

Please thank Governor Patrick for his leadership in addressing sexual and domestic violence and recognizing the importance of the essential services that you provide everyday for victims and survivors in Massachusetts!
