What's Happening

"Educating our communities and elected officials about the needs of survivors in our local cities and towns requires year round focus. JDI is our pathway to informing and influencing the state and national agenda to end sexual and domestic violence." ~ Karen Cavanaugh, Executive Director of Womanshelter/Companeras. Outcome of Senate FY2014 Budget

Our attention now turns to the Conference Committee for the final opportunity to advocate for funding in the state's Fiscal Year 2014 budget.  Watch for updates and action alerts so you can help us make the case for why this funding is critical!

Here's what happened in the Senate:

Amendment #623--DPH 4513-1130 (Sen Eldridge)--NOT adopted

Thanks to Senators Eldridge, Chang-Diaz, Creem, Brownsberger, Clark, Montigny, Keenan, Finegold, Joyce, M.Moore & Rush for their co-sponsorship of one of our amendments (#623--DPH 4513-1130) in the Senate. While it didn't pass, we appreciate their support and will continue our advocacy in the Conference Committee for the higher amount in the House budget.

Amendment #686--DCF 4800-1400 (Sen Candaras)--ADOPTED--adds $1.2million to the SWM original budget for a final amount of $22,830,532

Thanks to Senator Candaras and her staff for their hard work and to Senate Ways and Means staff for their assistance. The intent is for these funds to hold programs harmless from contract cuts when the new shelter bed rates are implemented by EOHHS (Executive Office of Health and Human Services).
