What's Happening

"Educating our communities and elected officials about the needs of survivors in our local cities and towns requires year round focus. JDI is our pathway to informing and influencing the state and national agenda to end sexual and domestic violence." ~ Karen Cavanaugh, Executive Director of Womanshelter/Companeras. PICTURE: Staff from The Center for Hope & Healing with Attorney General Maura Healey at JDI Advocacy Day.

Financials & Annual Reports

In our work to prevent and end sexual and domestic violence, one constant that keeps us going is the belief in the power of coalition to get behind a shared vision and make a difference for the better.

Copies of JDI’s financials can be found in our listing on Guidestar.

How is JDI funded?
JDI relies on the generosity of individuals, corporations, and foundations along with government funding.

As a qualified non-profit organization (501c3), all gifts to Jane Doe Inc. are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

How does JDI use my financial contributions?
Charitable contributions to JDI support education and organizing initiatives, operations, research and analysis, public policy and system advocacy, consulting and training efforts, conferences, lectures, exhibitions, and virtually every aspect of JDI’s mission.

Giving to JDI has an exponential impact. Your gift reaches not only one public policy advocacy organization but also our 60 members throughout the Commonwealth, the victims and survivors they serve, and more. It finds its way to local law enforcement, health care agencies and schools by supporting JDI’s ability to promote best practices and leadership capacity of our local member programs.

When you make a tax-deductible gift to JDI, you demonstrate your commitment to social justice and to safety and liberty for all victims and survivors of sexual and domestic violence throughout the Commonwealth. Your contribution is an investment; it makes communities safer as it increases the chances for saving and improving the lives of countless individuals and families.

Special note on Donors Rights
In keeping with the standards of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the Donor Bill of Rights, JDI gives all donors the opportunity to delete their names from mailing lists that JDI may intend to share. If you wish to remove your name from such lists, please contact JDI Development office at 617 248 0922 or e-mail us.

How can people support JDI’s work?
JDI needs your financial support as well as your active support. You can give your time and expertise to help advance JDI’s legislative and budget initiatives as well as public awareness and social change efforts. In addition, JDI’s member programs rely heavily on volunteers for direct services, support, operations and other important functions.

Who funds Jane Doe Inc.’s member programs?
JDI does not provide direct funding to our member programs. However, one of JDI’s key functions is state and federal budget advocacy for local services and programs. Government funding is a substantial and critical part of resources that support local services of our members, but it isn’t enough.

JDI’s members need philanthropic support of individual donors, corporations, and foundations. Each member is an independent non-profit and responsible for its own fundraising. Less than 50% of local services are paid for with state budget funding. The remainder of their budgets is funded through the generous support of individuals, businesses and groups.

JDI is committed to generating more public and private resources for all of our members. JDI operates with due diligence to avoid donor conflicts and from a position that reflects respect and support for and promotion of local program donor development efforts.
